Cleaning Protocols

At Viola's Beardies, we understand the importance of disease prevention. When we were rescuing reptiles, quarantining the animals, cleaning instruments, and washing decor between rescues was essential for preventing large outbreaks of parasites, mites, infections etc.

Step 1: Remove all furniture

After every boarder leaves, we remove all decor (basking furniture, tiles, dishes) and set them aside for cleaning.

Optional - 3% peroxide spray

We often use an undiluted 3% peroxide spray to spot treat and to disinfect tools. This targets hard-to-kill organisms like cryptosporidium. CDC info on crypto here

Step 3: F10 SC Veterinary Disinfectant

The final and most important step to cleaning the enclosure is using F10 Vet disinfectant. This cleaner is effective against most known bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

Steamer - For suspected/confirmed outbreaks

If we have a suspected or confirmed infection (i.e. mites, parasites, infections) in any animal, we use a handheld steamer on all surfaces. The extreme heat kills parasites, bacteria and viruses.
